Houston Gamblers 17, New Jersey Generals 31

Generals Shock Gamblers with Dominant Performance, Herschel Walker Leads the Way

The New Jersey Generals kept their playoff hopes alive with a commanding 31-17 victory over the Houston Gamblers at a frigid Giants Stadium. Herschel Walker delivered one of the finest performances of his stellar career, amassing 186 rushing yards on 32 carries, scoring three total touchdowns, and adding 190 receiving yards on seven catches. Quarterback Danny Bradley complemented Walker’s brilliance, throwing for 299 yards and two touchdowns, both to Walker, and posting a nearly perfect passer rating of 145.8. The Generals dominated time of possession, keeping the ball for over 42 minutes and stifling Houston’s high-octane offense.

Houston’s Jim Kelly, who came into the game as an MVP favorite, struggled under constant pressure from the Generals’ defense. While Kelly threw for 317 yards and two touchdowns, his 13 completions on 38 attempts and a costly interception kept the Gamblers from finding any rhythm. The Gamblers briefly threatened to rally in the third quarter with two quick touchdowns, including a 74-yard bomb to Gerald Verdin and a 21-yard strike to Ricky Sanders. However, Walker and the Generals responded with a clock-killing drive in the fourth quarter, capped by Walker’s second rushing touchdown to seal the victory.

The loss dropped Houston to 14-3, snapping a seven-game win streak and creating uncertainty around their playoff seeding. Meanwhile, the 10-6-1 Generals now control their own destiny heading into Week 17. With Herschel Walker firing on all cylinders and their defense showing newfound grit, New Jersey appears poised to make a deep postseason run.
