In their inaugural game, the Las Vegas Ace struggled against the seasoned Philadelphia Stars, falling 30-7 at Veterans Stadium. The Ace initially took a lead in the second quarter with Jerry Golsteyn connecting on a 2-yard touchdown pass to Rose. However, Philadelphia quickly responded with a 30-yard field goal from David Trout, making it 7-3 at halftime.
The Stars dominated the second half, beginning with Kelvin Bryant’s 6-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter. Another field goal from Trout increased their lead to 13-7. The Stars maintained their momentum in the fourth quarter, with Trout adding another field goal before Bryant punched in a 1-yard touchdown. A pivotal moment came when John Sutton returned an interception for a 32-yard touchdown, sealing the game for Philadelphia.
Philadelphia’s balanced offense and stifling defense overwhelmed Las Vegas. The Stars rushed for 188 yards, with Bryant leading the way, while their defense forced five turnovers. Golsteyn struggled against the relentless pressure, completing only 18 of 38 passes and throwing four interceptions. Despite the early lead, the Ace couldn’t sustain their performance against a more cohesive and experienced Stars team.
